The God of theism could not have an external explanation. If God was explained by something external then he would be dependent on that for his existence and would not be the supreme being. The existence of God has to be explained by himself or nothing.
Belinda, would you say this question is sort of asking you to debate whether God exists? Or have I misunderstood? (I've got a bit of time free now, so I'm trying to look things up for you) Date published 06-Sep-2008
I'll wait for your interpretation of the question before I look too deeply into this topic for you, but in the meantime, I found this interesting book on amazon:

To answer this question we must assume God does exsist. Then try to decide if there is something else that can explain where and how God came to be. Date published 06-Sep-2008
Okay, then this link I found yesterday has useful parts, I especially like the quote from philosophy for dummies, I think it was about halfway down the page, but too long to fit here. I'll try to find anything else that might help you if I get a chance later.

No, because if something external explained him then he would be dependant on that for his existance and would not be the Ultimate being. Date published 10-Sep-2008
have you heard about the scientists who have just created a black hole, its scary stuff messing with nature and powers they dont understand Date published 11-Sep-2008
Yeah I was watching that on the news and reading it in the paper, Jayley. Apparently they started the machine at 8am yesterday, but it won't be working at full capacity for a few months, and won't start creating black holes for over a year. Some scientists now reckon the world will end in 2012, and a scary coincidence is that the ancient Mayan calendar suddenly ends on 21st December 2012. Date published 11-Sep-2008
Student at Mount Saint Vincent University taking Religion & Reason as a Religious Studies credit. I have never taken Philosophy before and only learned what Philosophy was in August.
